Lineage: Kyozan Joshu Sasaki Roshi (Myoshin-ji) who founded Rinzai-ji in the west.
Practices: Chanting sutras, dana to sangha, meals, meditation, physical labour, precepts/ordination, retreats, sutra study, walking
Meditation: Breaths (noticing), calming (shamatha), insight (vipassana), just sitting (shikantaza), koan, zazen
Public activities:
6 am – 7:30 am meditation (Tuesdays through Fridays).
7:30 pm – 9 pm meditation (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
9 am – 12:30 pm Meditation, cleaning, social time (Saturdays and Sundays).
Newcomers Introductory Classes (most Saturdays and Sundays – registration required).
Monthly – Zazen-kai (one day retreat).
Quarterly – Sesshin (seven day retreat).
Other activities and initiatives: Buddhist Ceremonies – Buddha’s Birthday, Bodhidharma Memorial and Lin Chi (Rinzai) Memorial. Personal Ceremonies – weddings, funerals, memorials, etc can be arranged if appropriate. Monthly – Practice meetings. Bi-monthly – Training meetings. Quarterly – Administration meetings.
